MTGA | Friday Night Meta | July 2021 Week 3 | Enter Wolfpack | DnD Meta
July 16, 2021
Welcome to this week’s Friday Night Meta update! The goal is to equip you faster with information in a fast evolving game, and to get you the right information to help you make the decisions you need to make! This is intended to be a comprehensive view with a lens from Magic the Gathering Arena with impacts from the MTG gaming scene.
We have our first full week view into the new Dungeons & Dragons Adventures in the Forgotten Realms for the new Set Meta! I am extremely excited to be kicking things off this week as we have some new fresh things happening, and some sage old advice that continues to bold well!
I slice and dice weekly data using untapped.ggs companion app for BO1 & BO3 standard, cover a key deck for the week, and we talk about some key meta impacts!
As we kick things off all the old tried and true decks may or may not have got a bit of a facelift. Aggro is still the main thing, and lifegain hanging in there. The major new comer to the meta is Mono Green Stompy!
One thing I like to point out is the excessive win rates at the moment. Take advantage now, because as the meta continues to form things will consolidate and most likely these win rates will fall a bit. When we continue to see the top 8 decks all 55%+ it’s questionable in terms of long term stability. A reversion to a 50-55% win rate is more directionally accurate in terms of what we have seen as well as experienced.
We have some pretty sizable changes in the BO3 Top 8 right now. First and foremost welcome Mono Green Stompy, and not just a slight peek into this grouping! Mono Green has exploded onto the scene with Dungeons & Dragons, and we find ourselves with a deck that is commanding almost 20% of the meta right now! Insane! On top of it the deck has a crazy 60%+ win rate.
Two other mentions worth noting. Dimir control has broken into the meta, and Izzet dragons while still being a fan favorite are having a less than optimal time right now with a sub 50% win rate. There currently is a huge disparity in terms of the win rates and I expect these things like BO1 to narrow over the coming weeks.
Enter Wolfpack – Mono Green Stompy
Mono Green has exploded into the Meta both in context of win rate as well as most played. The deck picked up some amazing two drops that propelled it front and center.
Our Discord community is starting to pull together fun free tournaments, so stay tuned! We also have a very active streaming group if you are looking for some community live Q&A. Feel free to go vote on Youtube or Twitter.
This week in the Livestream I called it Rumti for a day – Go figure in honor of Mono Green! Where I play subs, supporters, and fans. I am also streaming on Youtube as well!
Make sure to stay tuned! I will be pulling together a new Dungeons & Dragons Tier List here soon!
I leverage multiple sources like untapped.ggs companion app stats, MTGAzone, Aetherhub, twitter, personal gameplay, tournament matches (mtg melee, magic.gg), this reddit as well as others, MTGData, personal stats, and consistently hitting Mythic and Mythic Qualifiers.
One last thought I would like to share:
If you have a competitive deck (different than one featured) I am always happy to do a piece on it time permitting. I have several folks that ask, and have done several player featured decks. I rather enjoy this so please don’t hesitate to reach out or ask. I always try to prioritize with the following and timing or relevance – MTGA Rank (1500s)/Top Tournaments, Mythic Unique decks down to Plat2Mythic Decks. Feel free to hop in the discord server and share your successes or PM/DM me! Lastly, a great fun way for us to interact is on Twitch where I currently stream x2 a week, and plan to do more in the future.
One other piece, I have recently started doing collaboration videos. If you are interested please let me know, and I would love to partner!
I wholeheartedly welcome any feedback on how to meet your needs as well as improving your experience! Additionally, for the near term my focus will be on Standard, and I hope to organically add in Historic in the future.
Thank you for your time, and hope you enjoyed this week’s piece!
